Tiling, marble, parquet and terraces from Monaco to Cannes

"Beautiful tiling shows on the first day. Well-laid tiling still shows ten years later."

Sergey, founder of SDM Carrelage & Rénovation

SDM Carrelage is Sergey, the founder, and a small team of trusted craftsmen. We lay tiles, marble, natural stone, parquet and wood and stone terraces in Nice and across the Côte d'Azur, between Monaco and Cannes, in apartments as well as villas.

Our clients appreciate that we take care of the whole job: preparing the subfloor, laying, grouting, finishing. For a pool, we do the basin, the copings, the surround and the deck. Sergey oversees every project himself: you have one contact person, from the first meeting to the handover.

We speak French, English and Russian. If you live abroad, we send you photos at every stage.

What we do: tiling, marble, parquet, pools and terraces

01

Pool renovation & surrounds

Renovating the basin in mosaic, stone or tiles, laying the copings and the surround, building the wooden deck all around. We plan it all as one, so that heights and joins line up perfectly.

Our advice: around a pool, choose a non-slip coping that slopes slightly outwards. Water from the surround then doesn't run back into the pool.

02

Marble & natural stone

Polished marble floors, fireplace cladding, stairs and stone walls. Marble forgives nothing: a subfloor that isn't perfectly flat shows immediately in the reflections.

Our advice: polished marble is beautiful in a living room, but it is sensitive to acid (lemon, vinegar, some cleaning products) and slippery when wet. For a shower or a kitchen, we talk it through with you before you choose.

03

Bathrooms & showers

Walk-in showers, wall tiles, large formats, built-in niches. In a bathroom, what you don't see matters as much as what you do: the waterproofing under the tiles and the fall towards the drain.

Our advice: for a walk-in shower, plan for waterproofing under the tiles on the floor and at the bottom of the walls. It's invisible, but it's what protects your downstairs neighbour.

04

Large-format tiles & patterns

XXL slabs, chevron, herringbone. The bigger the tile or the more precise the pattern, the more the setting-out plan and the flatness of the subfloor matter.

Our advice: on large formats, we apply adhesive to both the floor and the tile (back-buttering) and use levelling clips. No voids under the slab, no hollow-sounding tiles.

05

Wood and stone terraces

Exotic hardwood on joists and adjustable pedestals, or travertine, natural stone or marble paving: on a slab, a balcony, a roof terrace or by the pool.

Our advice: by the sea, use A4 stainless steel screws. Standard stainless steel eventually rusts in the salt air and stains the wood.

06

Parquet installation & restoration

Solid or engineered parquet, glued, floating or nailed. Herringbone, chevron or straight planks: we set out the pattern from the axis of the room so that it lines up in front of doors and windows. We also restore existing parquet: sanding, then varnish, oil or wax.

Our advice: by the sea, the air is humid part of the year. Engineered parquet moves much less than solid wood, and it is also the best choice over underfloor heating.

How we work

01

We visit before we quote

Tiling depends on what's underneath. We check the subfloor, levels and moisture on site. A quote without a visit is a quote that changes halfway through the job.

02

A quote you can understand

Removal, preparation, supplies, laying, grouting: every item is listed. You know what you pay for and why.

03

The subfloor first

Levelling, primer, waterproofing when needed. It's the step nobody sees, and it decides whether the tiling will last.

04

A clean site at handover

Rooms protected, cleaning at the end of each day and of the job. Sergey does the final walk-through with you.

Frequently asked questions

The questions we are asked most often at the first meeting.

How much does tiling cost?

The price per m² depends mainly on three things: the condition of the subfloor, the tile format and the pattern. A 60×60 tile laid straight on a sound screed is not the same job as marble in a chevron pattern on an old floor that needs levelling. That is why we quote after the site visit.

Can you tile over existing tiles?

Sometimes, yes. The old tiles must be well bonded, flat and without hollow-sounding tiles, and the extra height must still clear the doors. We check this tile by tile on site. Otherwise we remove them.

Do you supply the tiles?

Usually you choose the surface materials: tiles, marble, stone or parquet. We help you calculate the quantity to order, including offcuts. Everything else is on us: adhesives, mortars, grout, primers, waterproofing products and tools. These products decide how long the work lasts, so we choose them ourselves.

I live abroad. How does it work?

We communicate in French, English or Russian, by phone, WhatsApp or e-mail. We send you photos at every important stage, and we do the final handover together, on site or by video.
